ar.io

About ar.io

Making permanence useful, open, and resilient.

Ar.io is an open protocol and gateway network that caches, indexes, verifies, and serves permanent data. It exists so permanent data does not depend on a single gateway or company.

Why it exists

The web is good at publishing. It is not designed to remember.

Links break, platforms disappear, and access changes with business models or infrastructure failures. Permanent storage solves the first half of that problem by preserving the data itself.

Ar.io is the network that solves the second half. Independent operators run the gateways, so no single company decides whether a record stays reachable, and ArNS gives that record a name that survives the infrastructure serving it.

What guides the network

Access should not depend on one company.

Open access

Permanent information should remain usable without depending on one company, server, or interface.

Independent verification

Applications and users should be able to check data against its permanent source.

Distributed operation

Independent gateway operators provide access under shared, inspectable protocols.

Open development

The gateway stack, protocol interfaces, and developer tools are open for others to use and extend.

Network, not vendor

Ar.io is bigger than any one gateway.

Individual domains are entry points. The network itself is made up of independent operators using shared protocols and open software.

Use

Applications and communities

Choose an existing gateway, route across several, or operate infrastructure for a specific community.

Access

Independent gateways

Choose their infrastructure, services, operating model, and the content they serve.

Coordinate

The protocol

Defines gateway registration, ArNS, observations, staking, and incentives through protocol state on Solana.

Stewardship and development

Supporting an open network without owning it.

Organizations can steward software and ecosystem growth, but independent operators run the network and applications choose how they access it.

Non-profit stewardship

AR.IO Foundation

Supports the long-term health of the protocol and token ecosystem through core development, grants, education, outreach, and open ecosystem initiatives.

Independent software contributor

Permanent Data Solutions

Develops open-source gateway software and developer tooling used across the Arweave and ar.io ecosystems. PDS contributes software; independent operators run the gateways.
