RTFKT - Digital Asset Rescue
RTFKT partnered with ArDrive and ar.io to migrate ~30,000 CloneX and Animus NFT media assets to Arweave, ensuring permanent access via ArNS (ar://RTFKT).
Overview
RTFKT is a leading digital fashion and NFT brand known for pioneering projects like CloneX and Animus, blending art, culture, and blockchain technology. When a centralized infrastructure shutdown put the media assets behind these collections at risk, RTFKT turned to decentralized, permanent storage to ensure their long-term preservation.
The Problem: NFT Media at Risk of Disappearance
RTFKT’s flagship collections, CloneX and Animus, are among the most iconic digital asset series in NFTs. Despite the tokens themselves being on Ethereum, the image and metadata assets for these collections were hosted and served from centralized servers. This setup created a single point of failure: when those services suddenly stopped working because of a billing error, the visual content disappeared from marketplaces and galleries, leaving holders unable to view their NFT artwork.
This event underscored a core paradox in the NFT space: ownership was preserved onchain, but the media that gives NFTs meaning remained vulnerable to centralized outages and third-party control.

No single point of failure
The Solution: Migration to Arweave via ArDrive and ar.io
To safeguard the collections for the long term, RTFKT partnered with ArDrive to migrate ~30,000 CloneX and Animus NFT media assets from centralized hosting to a decentralized, permanent storage layer with ar.io. These assets are now immutably preserved onchain and retrievable via a permanent ArNS smart domain (ar://RTFKT), ensuring that the artwork associated with every token remains accessible long term.
By leveraging permanent storage, RTFKT eliminated reliance on centralized content delivery and protected the collections against future disruptions.

How ar.io Amplifies Permanent Accessibility
Ar.io’s infrastructure provides reliable, gateway-level access to the Arweave network, ensuring that decentralized storage is globally accessible, performant, and resilient. Permanent Web services like the Arweave Name System and ar.io’s network of gateways make it possible for users, marketplaces, and platforms to fetch NFT media reliably without dependence on centralized servers.
This integration showcases ar.io’s role in building a truly decentralized foundation for digital assets.

Community Impact and Broader Significance
The response from the NFT community was overwhelmingly positive, with collectors and observers stressing the importance of decentralization and permanence for cultural and economic value in Web3. By securing CloneX and Animus media onchain, the project not only restored access to iconic digital artworks but also highlighted a durable model for protecting NFTs against future infrastructure risks.
This move reinforces the principle that blockchain ownership needs decentralized data storage to be meaningful and permanent storage solutions supported by ar.io, are key to satisfying that requirement.
